Brief Biography of the Hon’ble Chancellor


Ananda Bose was born on 2 January 1951 at Mannanam, Kerala to Vasudevan Nair and Padmavathy. He attended Kuriakose Elias College, Mannanam, and St. Berchmans College, Changanassery. He holds a Ph.D from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. As the Administrator of the National Museum, Bose launched a 100-day programme which spelt out specific measures to revamp and revitalise the institution. Most of the improvements suggested were achieved in 60 days, such as opening the closed down galleries, modernising the display and lighting, launching outreach programmes to take the Museum to the community, arranging children's programme to ignite young minds to the greatness of India's national heritage, organising international exhibitions and launching the People's Museum movement, to mention a few. Prof.Nandini Sahu, the Amazon Bestselling Author, is a major voice in contemporary Indian English literatures. She has accomplished her doctorate in English literatures under the guidance of Late Prof. Niranjan Mohanty, Prof. of English, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan. She has been widely published in India, U.S.A, U.K., Africa, Italy, Australia and Pakistan. Apart from numerous other literary awards, she is a triple gold medalist in English literatures; she has received the Gold Medal from the hon'ble Vice-President of India for her contributions to English Studies in India in the year 2019. She is the recipient of the prestigious Michael Madhusudan Academy Award, 2024 and Lifetime Achievement Award(SAFE),2024. As I take over the position of the Vice Chancellor, Hindi University, West Bengal, I consider the challenges of this new university as opportunities for me towards social contribution and commitment. I have had multiple meetings and interactions with the faculty, staff and students of the university and I am glad, relieved to see that they are people of commitment and dedication to academics. In the very first week, we introduced the HINDI UNIVERSITY SPECIAL LECTURE SERIES and invited Prof.Anisur Rehman to deliver the first lecture of the series, which was a grand success. We shall invite the best brains of the country to collaborate with us in very near future. Before I get into serious engagements with academic and professional activities of the university, I conceive my roadmap for the university. My vision and plan for Promoting Indian and Foreign Languages: At Hindi University, West Bengal, we believe that language is not merely a medium of communication but a repository of cultural heritage, intellectual thought, and collective identity. History


There had long been a demand among the Hindi speaking communities of West Bengal for higher studies in their mother tongue. Hindi as a subject at UG and PG levels were there in many universities but not as the main stream subjects. Srimati Mamata Banerjee, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, came forward to fulfill this legitimate demand for Higher Studies in Hindi and other Indian languages. Hindi speaking people lie scattered all over the state, but their population density, leaving apart the border district Paschim Bardhaman, is mostly found in the districts of Hooghly (South East part), South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Kolkata. The town of Howrah is situated almost at the centre of this radius.
